Not Soprano

Congratulations to David Hyde Pierce, who won the Tony for best actor in a musical for his portrayal of Lt. Frank Cioffi, a musical loving detective (musical theater requires you to suspend your disbelief...a lot) in the show Curtains. I am a huge Frasier fan.

Best musical this year was Spring Awakening. I actually hadn't heard of this one before, but according to "the internets" is about a couple horny kids in Bismarckian Germany. Sounds like a good time to me.

Oh and Karen actually went to the Tony's. I am avoiding her calls so I don't have to endure her gloating. Sure, it's inevitable, but I'll just wait until I have something to gloat about too.

I have not seen it nor have any vested interest in it, but "Spring Awakenings" has a long, robust history as a banned book before rock musician Duncan Shiek turned it into a musical. Which at least partly explains the attention it got.

In any case, after the nonsense of "The Producers" winning so many (undeserved) Tonys, the currency of the award has been completely debased anyway.

Point taken Kip. And as someone who considers the Oscars to be a worthless exercise in self-congratuation ("the market is the only academy that determines real value" I have been known to snidely remark), it seems a bit incongruous that I should mention the outcome of the Tonys. Nonetheless, Karen went, and my (adorable, almost comedic)pettiness couldn't let that go un-commented upon.

I was wondering why you refused to answer my phone calls. And while I will agree with you that awards shows are nothing more than over produced, expensive "look at me, look at me" parties, I have to admit it was a pretty amazing evening!
