It Doesn't Suck to be Me

This morning, and I am not sure why, it occurred to me that I have much to be thankful for.

First, I live in a country that despite all its problems is still the greatest place to live in the world.

Second, I come from a loving family. My parents never neglect to tell me they are proud of me. Although we are not Butler and Bentley rich, we are very comfortable. My father's hard work afforded me opportunities that he did not have. Heck, we provide our dog with better health care than most of the world can provide their children.

Third, I have some great close friends who accept me for who I am without a moment's hesitation.

Fourth, I am (at the risk of sounding arrogant) rather talented. I am able to take the opportunities my father's hard word provided me and make the most of them.

Fifth, I am young, healthy, educated, and ambitious.

Finally, I have many other blessings too numerous to list here.

Keeping an eye on these things makes my daily stresses and mild disappointments seem far less important by comparison.

Good message, and good for you! Gratitude is a "parent virtue" that puts our thinking in proper alignment with respect to what God has done for us.

Will I have been a reader of Matt's blog for a long time now and somehow stumbled on to yours.

I went back and read it all from the beginning. You are interesting and write well. You have your beliefs but I love it how when someone asks a question you alomst always answer. Good for you.

I will contintue to read with interest your journey. It's not always an easy one but it's the path we know we must follow. See what's around the next bend (or should that be "bent").

Add another blessing: you did not, like me, decide to pursue a doctorate in something fairly esoteric and only marginally "useful." I once added up how much money I will not make over the course of my life because I didn't go to law school -- it was mildly depressing.

Always remember that to whom much is given, much is expected.

Yeah... it's always important to remember the good things we have... because the blessing we receive from God will always far outweigh the trials... even if sometimes it doesn't seem that way.

It's good to be reminded of that.

Pinky, you'll get past the 'young' part okay. It gets better with age!

Amen, Elephant. So good to hear gratitude, especially this week. We have so much to be grateful for.
And you are VERY talented, and worthy of all the good things in your life.

Manxxman, thanks for checking my little project out. I hope you will continue to read and comment whenever you like.

Matthew, we all have a bit of grass is greener syndrome. I look at the hours I am expected to work and wonder why I just didn't become an investment banker: same hours, triple the pay.

Karen, after what you and Sean did, there is no way I couldn't cherish you!
